Wall art has become one of the leading trends in
interior design during recent years. No wonder: no one can deny that wall art
(if it is chosen correctly) can add a unique detail to your home that will be
much more expressive than just creating a harmonic color palette. Wall art
allows for the use of bold color combinations and will let you show your creativity
and individuality. But do you actually know how to select the right wall art?
In fact, there are a lot of approaches on how to do it: wall art can be
selected by the size, theme, style, etc. In this article, we will give you some
tips on how to choose your wall art by color.
The first thing you should know is that there are
actually two different ways of incorporating art into your house. The first
consists in sticking to the existing color scheme and to complement it. If you
choose to do that, you should follow these rules:
- No matter what
artwork you select, remember that its background color should match your wall
color.
- If you are not
sure, use the color wheel when you choose shades.
- Do not use the
same color if you do not want your artwork to disappear on your wall. Try to
combine the light and the deep shades of the same color.
- Remember that
the majority of rooms need no more than four colors to get pulled together.
That is why select wall art that features the shades that are already present
in your room.
- Are you not sure
about the color? In this case, always opt for black and white that will add
elegance and structure to any room.
- Bright colors
and neons are far from the best solutions because they rarely match the neutral
colors of the wall.
- Do not forget
that proportion matters even in colors. So, if your room is predominantly green
with some yellow decorations, your wall art should not be super-yellow.
As an alternative, you could choose the second
approach, which is about introducing bolder shades and forms on the color
scheme of your room. In this case, remember the following:
- Bright pieces
should be placed on the neutral background to leap to the eye.
- If you want your
room to look unusual, you can choose paintings of the same artist but in different
color schemes. This way, space will be tied together by the style.
- Pay close
attention to undertones (the hidden qualities of a picture). For example, if
they are mostly dark purple, the artwork will greatly benefit a light violet
wall.
- Try to make
maximum use of photo frames to make the art stand out. Forget about classical
options like black, white, or gold and choose something more creative.
